Instructions for Backing Up EasyTrak 2000 Data Files

  1. Start EasyTrak.
  2. Left-click on the “Utilities” tab (located near the upper left corner of the tool bar).
  3. Select “Backup & Restore Data” on the dropdown menu that appears.
  4. Select the “Backup To” tab. (Be certain that you do not accidentally have the “Restore From” tab selected. This is used only when recovering from a disaster. It does not perform the same function as the “Easy Upload” program.)
  5. There are two ways to backup. You should do them both regularly:
    1. To your fixed disk or “C:” drive:

                                                               i.      In the “1) Select Drive” window, using the dropdown arrow, select “c:”

ii.      If the “2) Select directory location” shows these folders: “C:\,” “EasyTrak32,” “Backups,” followed by the day of the week, then skip to step v.

iii.      In the “2) Select directory location” window double-click on “C:\” then on “EasyTrak32” then on “Backups” (note it’s plural as there is a “BACKUP” directory that has a different use).

iv.      There should now be a list of the days of the week. Double-click the correct day of the week. (If you have backed up to this folder before, the right window will now show “EasyTrak.SBK.” Otherwise it will remain blank.)

                                                             v.      Click on “3) Start Backup.” (If there is a button labeled “5) Start Restore Data,” in step 4 you did not properly select the “Backup To” tab. Go back and select it.)

vi.      If you have previously backed up to this directory, you will get a “Confirm” window that asks “Do you really want to overwrite existing backup?” You do, so select “Yes.”

vii.      The status bar will show the progress of the backup and, when finished a window that says “Backup Complete!” will appear. Click “OK” and “Exit.” Your backup is done.

    1. To your floppy disk or “A:” drive. (This is also the way you make the monthly disk to send to the district office.):

                                                               i.      Put a floppy in drive “A.”

ii.      In the “1) Select Drive” window, using the dropdown arrow, select “a:” (If you have backed up to this floppy before, the right window will now show “EasyTrak.SBK.” Otherwise it will remain blank.)

iii.      Click on “3) Start Backup.” (If the button is labeled “5) Start Restore Data,” in step 4 you did not select the “Backup To” tab. Go back and select it.)

iv.      If you have previously backed up to this floppy, you will get a “Confirm” window that asks “Do you really want to overwrite existing backup?” You do, so select “Yes.”

                                                             v.      The status bar will show the progress of the backup and, when finished a window that says “Backup Complete!” will appear. Click “OK” and “Exit.” Your backup is done, but wait until the light on the floppy drive goes out before you remove the disk.

This should complete your backup. You can't backup too often. If you have any questions concerning these instructions, you can contact Hugh Christian at hugh@goairborne.com or call him at (706) 202-9727.
